A positive payout can still leave a net loss

A round can return some money while returning less than its total cost. Gross payout and net result should both be visible.

The distinction that matters

Net result is the round's gross returned amount minus the complete stake. A positive payout is not necessarily a positive net result. Sounds, animation and a highlighted number do not change that subtraction. Keep any additional component costs in the stake total if the rules show they were charged.

A worked example

For a fictional C$2 round returning C$0.80, the gross payout is C$0.80 and the net result is minus C$1.20. Describing the round simply as an 80-cent win hides the larger cost. Conversely, calling the payout zero would also misstate the record.

Your next steps

  • Record the complete stake.
  • Record the gross payout separately.
  • Subtract stake once to obtain net result.
  • Use labels that distinguish a payout from profit.
