Count symbols only under the documented winning pattern
Matching symbols may need a particular position or relationship. Counting them anywhere on the screen can answer the wrong question.
The distinction that matters
Read whether the rule concerns a payline, adjacent positions, a specified direction, scattered symbols or another pattern. Keep the condition attached to the award. Do not transfer a scatter-style interpretation to a line-based rule or assume that every symbol with the same image participates identically.
A worked example
A fictional rule awards three matching symbols from the left on an active line. Three matching symbols elsewhere would not satisfy that stated rule. Another fictional rule could explicitly count symbols anywhere, but that is a different condition requiring its own documentation.
Your next steps
- Identify the award's matching rule.
- Trace the required positions without changing the game record.
- Check any active-line or direction condition.
- Save the relevant rule and round reference for a query.
Where this answer stops
Northline cannot decide whether a real round should have paid from a description alone. The full applicable rules and provider record matter. Do not keep playing merely to recreate an uncertain event.
